A Brotherhood of Builders
Freemasonry is the world's oldest and most widely recognized fraternity. At East Gate, we gather as we have for nearly a century and a half — by the Square, upon the Level, and according to ancient usage.
We are teachers and tradesmen, surgeons and soldiers, clerks and clergymen. We come from every corner of Des Moines and from every walk of life. What unites us is a shared pursuit: the building of character, the support of our neighbor, and the quiet labor of becoming better men than we were yesterday.
Our Lodge room has stood since 1921. The working tools have not changed. Neither has the work.
The three great tenets
Upon which our craft is built
Tenet I
Brotherly Love
To regard every brother as a fellow-traveler, and every man as a neighbor. We meet upon the Level without regard to station, and we part upon the Square with the bond unbroken.
Tenet II
Relief
To extend aid to a brother in distress, to the widow, and to the orphan; to relieve their wants and soothe their misfortunes with hand and heart alike.
Tenet III
Truth
To seek that which was lost, to labor in the quarry of knowledge, and to let the plumb-line of sincerity govern every word and action.
